Pastoral Assistant
Paul and I moved to Knockholt in 1967, the year we married. Previously I taught secondary Maths in Ealing where I was involved with the church and the Covenanter group, before working for 2 years in a home for the handicapped where I met Paul. He had been severely handicapped from the age of 5 and I was his carer for 37 years. We had a wonderfully happy marriage although we did not have children. I taught in Chislehurst and Paul did what he could in the home and, in spite of very limited movement, made world class model boats.
Paul's condition gradually deteriorated and when I found it very difficult to cope I started reading my bible again. God found me through the Psalms and I have found great peace and joy in being a Christian. I do not know how I would manage without my faith. Paul died in 2004.
Having no ties I was able to enter fully in the life of the church. Michael suggested I might become a churchwarden and I "shadowed" Pamela during the Interregnum. I am pleased to have the privilege of serving in this way. I was thrilled to be called by God to train as a Pastoral Assistant and find the work most rewarding.
