St. Katharine’s Churchyard
Our churchyard occupies an area of two acres with extensive views particularly to the South. It has the usual yew trees with one magnificent specimen in front of the church reputed to be as old as the church itself. There are other specimen trees including a spectacular magnolia The churchyard is particularly attractive in spring with swathes of snowdrops and daffodils covering large areas.
The boundaries had become severely overgrown but have recently been the subject of serious clearance work which has dramatically improved the sight. This has been achieved as a result of hard work by a dedicated group of volunteers who meet on the second Saturday of each month at 9.30am. The major clearance work has almost been completed but maintenance is an ongoing requirement so the volunteer group will continue its work. The grass cutting is devotedly undertaken by a different group of loyal volunteers who keep it in fine order. The efforts of all our work was recognised in the 2004 Quinquennial report which noted the very tidy condition of our churchyard.
