Farewell to the Rector

Sunday, the 29th January was a sad day for the Benefice, the Rector, Michael Woodcock held his last service at St Margaret's before leaving us to take up his new post in Cumbria. However at the Rector's request the theme of the service, and of the party which followed at the Village Hall, was a celebration of the last six years rather than a prolonged leave-taking.

We are extremely grateful to the Rector and to Michelle for their efforts since they arrived in 1999, which have developed youth work in both parishes, organised focus groups and management strategies for the PCCs, and encouraged the adult choirs in both parishes. Michelle has been particularly active, training as a Reader, and initiating and training the youth choir at Halstead. They have involved many of the parishioners in the popular Holiday Clubs which have been annual events, and over the years have encouraged participation in Alpha Courses, and in particular the recent Youth Alpha Course which was much appreciated.

We will all miss Michael, Michelle and James in so many ways - Horticultural Shows will not be the same without Michelle's onions! Neither can we believe that Heather the Weather has gone from our midst. However they travel north with our good wishes for the future, secure in the knowledge that it is not goodbye, rather au revoir, and with our assurances that their legacy will be in safe hands during the interregnum.
