3rd Dec 2006 Announcement at St. Margaret's Church at 10.30am
I’d like to ask Andrew Miller & Carol Cooling of St. Katharine’s and Margaret May of St. Margaret’s to join me, as we are the 4 people privileged to be selected by our PCC’s to find a new Rector for our united Benefice. It has been a long and challenging year but we are delighted to announce that the Rev. John Benson, Team Vicar in the Barnstaple Area Team Ministry has accepted our invitation to become Rector of St. Katharine’s and St. Margaret’s Halstead. He has also met with the Bishop of Rochester and subject to the usual procedures will be instituted here at St. Margaret’s on Thursday 22nd February 2007 at 7.30pm. John went to school in Rochester, then to University in Wales, Agricultural College in Devon and Theological College in Bristol Before being ordained in Exeter in 1985 he was a farmer in Devon. Over the past 20years he has ministered in Devon and will bring with him much experience and enthusiasm. He will come with his wife Pat, who is a teacher. They have 3 grown-up children. We feel certain that John is the person God wants to be here and we know you will pray for him and his family as they say goodbye to friends in Devon and begin a new ministry with us. We must pray also that we will be encouraging, supportive and welcoming to them all.
We will be pleased to try to answer any questions you may have. Planning for the Institution will be managed by our Curate Hugh Thomas, the 4 Churchwardens and Interregnum Administrator in conjunction with the Rural Dean the Rev. Paul Francis.
