Wastewatchers - A Summer Holiday Club for 3 - 14 year olds

28th-31st August 2007

The title of our Summer Holiday Club this year is WASTEWATCHERS - please note the spelling of WASTE! This doesn't mean we're going to be talking about rubbish - quite the opposite in fact. We will be encouraging the children to explore the wonders of God's creation and to think about how we should be looking after what God has made. Together we will discover the mess caused by mankind disobeying God, but also celebrating how Jesus can transform our lives through what He has done for us.

As always, we need your help to make Holiday Club run smoothly. To begin with, we know from our past experience that every single prayer made for Holiday Club is answered (although not always in the ways we expect!) so please bear us and the children in mind in your prayers. If you would like the name of a child (or children) to pray for specifically, please sign up on one of the lists in either St Katharine's or St Margaret's Church and during August we will provide you with the name of a child attending Wastewatchers so you can mention them particularly in your prayers.

Secondly, although we're not talking rubbish, we are collecting it! One of the topics that features throughout the programme is recycling and we're keen to encourage the children (and you!) to take part in this. Could you please begin collecting at home for us cardboard and plastic boxes, containers and cartons that we can re-use to make other things? We don't want to give too much away at this stage, but cereal boxes, egg cartons, cardboard tubes, plastic milk bottles (washed, please!) and similar items will be gratefully received and used - but not yet! If it's possible for you to collect these items for us but hold on to them until nearer the time, we will let you have delivery or collection details in August. (Please don't bring things to Church or school yet, we simply don't have the storage space.)

Our third request is for Holiday Club Leaders and Helpers. Many of you have filled these vital roles in the past and we'll be delighted to have you all back, please, but we're also keen to recruit new Leaders and Helpers. Ideally you can commit to all four days (you'll have more fun if you're there for all the sessions!), but even if you can only attend one morning we'd love to have you on the team. If you missed the Leaders' Training and Information Day on Wed 27th June at Knockholt Village Centre, don't worry, there's still plenty to do and many hands make light work! If you feel you would like to be part of the team and can help in any way, please contact Carol as soon as possible.

Finally, we are hoping to hold a Fundraising Coffee Morning on Tuesday 10th July, 10.30am - 12 noon in The North Room, St Margaret's Church, Halstead to raise funds for Holiday Club. As well as refreshments, there will be an opportunity to see and try out some of the Craft the children will be making at Wastewatchers, especially useful if you missed the Workshop in June! We look forward to seeing you there!
